New Grass-Fed Beef Study 2011!
I just checked a blog that I read on a fairly regular basis called Marks Daily Apple. Today’s post caught my attention
as it outlined a new Grass-Fed Beef Study that was just completed. The findings were no surprise and further support a grass-fed only diet! The summary is found below:
The study was done over 4 weeks and was a double-blind, randomized dietary study of 40 people. Half of the subjects were male and half were female, all of average health. Half of the subjects were given grass-fed beef & lamb to consume during the study and the other half were given grain finished beef & lamb to consume. The findings were that consumers of grass-fed meat realized improved plasma and platelet fatty acid composition: less omega-6 and more omega-3.
A few of the keys:
The finishing period of animals raised for consumption appear to be the most crucial. Always ask if the meat that you are buying is grass or grain finished.
Oily fish is still the best and most concentrated source for long chain omega-3′s but how long can you eat only fish? Variety is the spice of life!
